ATEX Awareness Training Online | Explosive Atmospheres Safety Course with 5-Year ATEX Certificate
Self-paced e-learning · ~2 hours · 5-year certificate · Instant access
Working in or visiting an explosive atmosphere – an Ex area – means working under strict EU safety rules. This online ATEX awareness course gives you everything you need to recognise the hazards, understand the legal framework and operate safely from day one. You finish the course at your own pace, sit a short final exam and receive your ATEX card and certificate immediately.
The training is built for staff, contractors, supervisors and visitors across industries where flammable gases, vapours, mists or combustible dust may be present, including energy, chemicals, pharmaceuticals, wood processing, paint shops, fuel handling and storage facilities.
Who needs ATEX awareness training?
- New hires being onboarded into ATEX-classified areas
- Maintenance technicians, electricians and mechanical fitters working in Ex zones
- Contractors and service personnel entering customer sites with explosive atmospheres
- Supervisors, safety coordinators and HSE leads responsible for compliance
- Anyone whose existing ATEX competence is approaching its 5-year expiry
ATEX training and EU legal requirements (Directive 1999/92/EC)
EU legislation – the ATEX “Workplace” Directive 1999/92/EC and, in Finland, Government Decree 576/2003 on the protection of workers from explosive atmospheres – requires employers to provide adequate instruction to anyone exposed to explosion risk. This course is designed to satisfy those induction requirements and gives you documented proof of competence to share with auditors and clients.
ATEX awareness course content – what you will learn
The curriculum is structured around the practical questions a worker actually faces on site:
- What an ATEX area is and how it is defined in law
- How explosive atmospheres form – the role of gases, vapours, mists and dust
- The most common ignition sources and how to control them
- Zone classification (0/1/2 and 20/21/22) and equipment category marking
- How to read ATEX labels and choose suitable equipment
- Safe working methods, permits and the role of the Explosion Protection Document
- Real-world examples drawn from multiple industries
A short assessment at the end confirms you have understood the material. Pass it and your digital ATEX card and certificate are issued instantly. Both remain valid for five years.
