Approved Occupational Safety Cards in Finland
There is only one approved Occupational Safety Card in Finland under the name Työturvallisuuskortti, as the Centre for Occupational Safety (TTK) owns the Työturvallisuuskortti® trademark, which was registered on October 31, 2003—over 20 years ago. Historically, more than 2.5 million Occupational Safety Cards have been issued, and the number of currently valid cards is nearly one million.

Centre for Occupational Safety TTK Occupational Safety Card
The Työturvallisuuskortti by the Centre for Occupational Safety (TTK) is currently the most well-known and therefore the most widely accepted qualification obtained from basic occupational safety training, which is considered a requirement for working in many different industries. By completing the official TTK Occupational Safety Card training, it is most likely that you will not face challenges regarding the acceptance of your qualification card when entering the work environments of various companies.
The Centre for Occupational Safety (TTK) maintains the Occupational Safety Card system. TTK is responsible for quality control, trainer education, maintaining the qualification register, and developing the training system.
Training centers’ own basic occupational safety courses
There are several basic occupational safety courses available in Finland that have been developed by training centers themselves. These are typically named very similarly to the Työturvallisuuskortti® brand, and confusion has not always been avoided. The quality of the training centers’ own basic occupational safety courses varies; while there are some excellent programs, lower-quality courses have also been encountered.
Choosing an occupational safety qualification and meeting the requirements set by the client
The requirement for a basic occupational safety course typically comes from the client, and the client has the ultimate right to decide what kind of basic occupational safety training they accept and require for working in their environment. Currently, almost all companies accept the Työturvallisuuskortti training. Only some companies accept the training centers’ own basic occupational safety courses, and even then, most of these companies only accept training and qualifications from specific training centers.
When choosing a safety qualification other than the Työturvallisuuskortti training, we recommend first confirming its acceptance with the company where you intend to work and which should accept the qualification. The Occupational Safety Card from the Centre for Occupational Safety (TTK) is typically considered a reliable choice.

A new standard was published in Spring 2024: PSK 6803 Basic training in occupational safety
The purpose of the standard is to create minimum requirements for basic occupational safety courses provided by different operators. Establishing minimum requirements and operating in accordance with the standard creates a framework for clearer qualification acquisition, the setting of qualification requirements by companies, and the free movement of labor in Europe in line with the European Commission’s objectives.
